Top Fuel vs. Funny Car in match race at Raceway Park

Nitro Cars will be making their first appearance at Raceway Park in more than 15 years on Sunday as part of the Old Bridge race track’s annual March Meltdown.

Making the Nitro Cars reappearance even more exciting will be the rare and seldom seen match-up, a Top Fuel Dragster against a nitro-powered Funny Car in a winner-take-all $10,000 contest.

Bobby Lagana Jr., of Scarsdale, N.Y., will be behind the wheel of his family-owned Top Fuel Dragster, while Sparta’s Terry Haddock will be the wheelman of the Nitro Fish Pontiac Funny Car for the match-up.

The nitro match-up is part of a four-way feature which includes a four-second, 315 mph Jet Dragster match race between Jessica Willard and Toby Ehrmantraut; an eight-car blown and nitrous powered Pro Modified eliminator; and an Ultra Quick 8 eliminator race.

Gates will open at 9 a.m. on Sunday with the feature event starting at 2 p.m. Tickets will be sold the day of the race at the gate. General admission is $12 with an additional $8 to enter the pit area. Parking is free.
