Road closing a source of Sunday frustration

In regard to Sunday’s Redbird Ramble, yes, I realize that it is hard to have a road race in Allentown without closing the road. Although, it would be beneficial to traffic flow to set up detour signs rather than just stop traffic which causes congestion and frustration.

In some eyes, holding up travelers on a Sunday morning just seems like an inconvenience. But there are many who have important time schedules and commitments on Sunday.

Church-related activities need reliable on-time leaders. Not all of us attend churches in this community and I know there are those who travel to Allentown’s many churches from other areas. These people, along with those who are em-ployed on weekends, need to travel in a timely manner even on Sunday mornings. Would this be allowed to happen on a weekday? Are those travelers somehow more important?

I hope that it is necessary to obtain a permit from the borough to close the road to traffic. If not, I am calling on the councilmen to make it necessary. I would also like to see it be made necessary to include a detour system in the plan when an organization applies for a permit.

Stopping traffic at the point of impact does nothing but cause frustration for those stuck in line and for those waiting to arrive at their destination.
