Two men arrested on heroin and cocaine charges near Primary School

RED BANK — Two North Jersey men face drug charges after police arrested them last week at an apartment less than 1,000 feet from the Primary School.

Tyrone A. Field, also known as Dawayne Baker, 24, of Newark, and Keith Bernard Wideman, also known as Kuleaf, 30, East Orange, were both arrested March 30 when police responded to a 911 call.

Police said Sgt. Joshua Berbrick, and patrolmen Michael Frazee and David Smith encountered Field and Wideman at a Locust Avenue apartment where neither man was a tenant nor could not account for being there.

Near where the two men were sitting, police said they discovered a plastic bag containing a "significant amount" of crack cocaine and heroin. Police say the men also had about $1,200 in cash on them, which was seized as evidence.

Both Field and Wideman were arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine and heroin, and possession of cocaine and heroin with the intent to distribute.

And because they were arrested in the immediate proximity of the Primary School, both men were charged with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone, police said.

Later it was discovered that Field was wanted for a parole violation in Essex County. Detective Sgt. Richard J. Coutu said that according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, "both men have fairly extensive criminal histories."

Bail was set at $120,000 for both men with no 10 percent option.

They are currently being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold.
