QUAKERTOWN, Pa. — Louis “Lou’ Dean Chatman Sr., 72, died May 6 at St. Luke’s Quakertown Hospital.
Born in Norfolk, Va., he was the son of the late Ernest and Mabel Wise Charity and was adopted by the late Senora Marie Tyler Chatman.
Mr. Chatman retired in 1989 after 25 years as a storekeeper for U.S. Gauge Division of Ametek, Inc.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II in the Pacific Theater serving as a cook aboard the USS Stag.
He was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship Church, Quakertown. He was a former deacon, organist, choir member, and Sunday school teacher and administrator of the Second Baptist Church, Doylestown.
A former member of the Quakertown Fire Co. No. 1, he was a fire policeman. He was a former member of the Doylestown Fire Co. No. 1, O.P. James Ambulance, Doylestown, and the Independent Fire & Ambulance Co., Doylestown.
Mr. Chatman was a former Webelos Scout leader in Doylestown and served on the Willow Grove V.F.W. color guard/drill team.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Try Chatman; five sons and two daughters-in-law, Mark Louis at home, Louis Dean “Buddy” of Arizona, Louis Dean Jr. and Dawn of Quakertown, Craig Sammons of New Jersey, and Daryl and Patty Sammons of Deluth, Ga.; two daughters, Doreleena Sammons-Pose of Lawrenceville, N.J., and Shelia Roberts of Pennsbury; two sons-in-law, Estavon Posey of Trenton and David Roberts of Pennsbury; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a former wife, Joanna M. Chatman.
