Hermanas
A Latin Dance Party, sponsored by Hermanas: Sisterhood in Central America and the Caribbean, will be held Saturday, June 3, at The Arts Council of Princeton, corner of Witherspoon Street and Paul Robeson Place. Doors open at 8 p.m. with a Latin dance demonstration, followed by a free salsa lesson by Pasion Latina at 9 p.m.
The evening’s festivities, a benefit for Cuba, support the Pastors for Peace Caravan. A humanitarian aid caravan to Cuba, Pastors for Peace deliver life-saving raw pharmaceutical materials, medicines and medical equipment to the doctors and nurses of Cuba.
Hermanas is a multicultural group of women pursuing an on-going project to develop and build solidarity between women in the Americas.
Tickets are $10 in advance at Crafts with a Conscience at the Salty Dog, 4 Spring St., Princeton, and will be on sale at the door. Children are free when accompanied by an adult. For more information, call (609) 924-0455.
Anchor House
The Anchor House Foundation, which hosts the annual Ride For Runaways to benefit the Trenton shelter for runaway and abused children, is sponsoring its second annual Cory’s Ride, a one-day cycling event to benefit the Cory C. Golis Anchor House Scholarship Fund.
Cory, a 15-year-old Hopewell Township resident and a freshman at Hopewell Valley High School, was killed in July 1998 in a collision with a motor vehicle while riding on the final of the Ride For Runaways. The foundation, in cooperation with the Golis family, established a scholarship fund in Cory’s name.
Part of the fund-raising effort for the scholarship fund is Cory’s Ride, which last year raised more than $7,000.
This year’s ride, which is returning to Rosedale Park in Hopewell Township on June 3, will consist of 20 and 40-mile routes and will draw on Anchor House veterans and area cyclists for participation. Cory’s Ride will feature expanded events following the ride in Rosedale Park and the announcement of the recipient of the fund’s first scholarship.
