BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP — Robert C. Faehner, a Democratic candidate for Township Committee facing charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of cocaine, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in his car, has withdrawn from the race.
Mr. Faehner, 44, of Gary Court in Bordentown, will remain on the June 6 primary ballot but will not be a candidate in the general election, said William Cashman, his Democratic running mate.
Mr. Faehner and Mr. Cashman are unopposed in the party primary to select candidates for two Township Committee slots.
Attempts to reach Mr. Faehner for comment were unsuccessful.
Mr. Faehner’s name will remain on the ballot because the filing deadline for the primaries has passed.
Mr. Faehner was arrested in April after stopping his car behind a patrol car at the scene of an accident at the intersection of Route 130 and Farnsworth Avenue. Mr. Faehner was found to be intoxicated and transported to the police station, according to police reports. The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office stated that Mr. Faehner’s case is under review.
Mr. Cashman declined to discuss Mr. Faehner’s decision, saying “that is something he has to respond to.”
But Mr. Cashman said Mr. Faehner would not be his running mate in November.
“That is my understanding, that he will not be on the ballot,” Mr. Cashman said.
Mayor R. Joseph Foster, who also serves as chairman of the township Democratic Party, could not be reached for comment.
