Circle of Excellence award winners will be honored

FREEHOLD — The Western Monmouth Chamber of Commerce has announced the six individuals/organizations who will receive a 2000 Circle of Excellence Award.

The award, created in 1995 by the chamber and sponsored by Fleet Bank, is given to individuals and groups in recognition of their service to the community in six categories — public service, nonprofit, small business, major business, individual community service and volunteer of the year.

According to Michael Sullivan, award chairman, all honorees will receive their awards at a special program to be held at the Battleground Country Club, Manalapan, on June 1.

"The event has been designed to enhance a spirit of celebration by the chamber and we look forward to a full house," Sullivan said.

Freehold Township Mayor David P. Segal will receive the 2000 Circle of Excellence Award in recognition of his public service to the township. Segal is completing his eighth three-year term on the Township Committee and is seeking election to a ninth term.

He has also served on the Shade Tree Commission, Monmouth County Plan-ning Board, Manasquan River Regional Sewerage Authority, Freehold Township Planning Board and Master Plan Committee, and as Monmouth County emergency management coordinator,

In the nonprofit category, the Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts, which has served Monmouth County for more than 38 years, is the recipient of a 2000 Circle of Excellence Award. The Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts delivers recreational, learning and community service programs to more than 11,500 girls.

The 2000 Circle of Excellence Award in the Small Business category is being awarded to the Stewart Title Agency of Central Jersey, which has been serving Western Monmouth County since 1973.

The business has participated in the Habitat for Humanity program and has been an ongoing sponsor of the Freehold Center Partnership’s Holiday House Tour.

Kathleen Lockwood, president, has been involved for 10 years, serving as president and treasurer of the Western Monmouth Exchange Club, Western Monmouth Chamber of Commerce vice chairwoman and member of the Education Committee and the Women in Business Committee, and since 1996, she has been the marketing committee chairwoman for the Freehold Center Partnership.

Lockwood and the Stewart Title Agency of Central Jersey have also been involved with helping the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, Deborah Hospital and others.

In the Major Business category, Withum Smith and Brown CPA has been chosen to receive a 2000 Circle of Excellence Award. The firm and its employees have a long list of recipients who have received help, including the Monmouth Unit of the American Cancer Society, Brookdale Community College Foun-dation, Rotary Club of Monmouth, CPC Human Services, Monmouth Council Girl Scouts, Monmouth Conservation Foun-dation and Cub Scout Pack 157, Manalapan.

Dr. Zeff Lazinger, president and CEO of the Lazinger Wellness Center, is the Community Service award winner. Lazinger is the Freehold Township Volunteer Fire Department president. He has served on the Freehold Alliance Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse and is a member of the Optimist and Mason organizations.

Additionally, Lazinger has sponsored the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program in Lakewood, and has sponsored Freehold Soccer League, Little League and women’s volleyball teams.

Winning the 2000 Chamber Volunteer of the Year Award is Richard A. Kadash, Western Monmouth Chamber of Commerce immediate past president and vice president of business banking for Fleet Bank. Kadash has also been active in several other chambers of commerce, including Middlesex County Regional, Southern Middlesex, Princeton, Hightstown and the Eastern Monmouth chamber.

He has volunteered for the East Brunswick Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus, Central Jersey United Way, Monmouth-Ocean Red Cross, Monmouth County Girl Scouts, Delaware Raritan Girl Scout Council, Middlesex County chapter of the American Cancer Society and the Middlesex County chapter of the American Heart Association.
