The 11th Annual Jersey Shore Summer Duals Team/Individual Wrestling Tournament is slated for July 17-20 from 6 to 10 p.m. each day at Matawan Regional High School. The Old Bridge Wildcats, an under-12 girls Premier Division team in the Monmouth-Ocean Soccer Association, won their flight at the Manalapan Memorial Day Tournament. The Wildcats topped the Manalapan Rage 2-1, Somerset Hills 4-1, the Freehold Fireballs 2-1 and the Montgomery Panthers 4-2.

Seven Wildcats scored in the tournament.

The Wildcats are: Sandy Black, Tiffany Caporale, Kristin Cizek, Jayne Condon, Brittany Durgin, Erin Fitzgerald, Katherine Johnston, Nicole Mateyka, Larissa Mazzeo, Kim Meigh, Gina Pennisi, Kerry Saverese, Brandy Schnoorbusch, Vicky Sedefian, Crystal Szebenyi and Ashley Ventura.

The Old Bridge Warriors, an under-9 soccer team, picked up their eighth straight win with a 5-0 defeat of Wall as Daniel Albrecht and John Hopkins split time in goal for their fourth shutout of the season. Khaled Issa, Jeffrey Olsen and Joey Sastoque played solid defense in front of the goal to help secure the win, and Colton Gerdon and Tom Parkinson scored two goals apiece with Albrecht also tallying. Kevin Reseter, Alex Colin, Kevin Maclachlan, Courtney McNallan and Paul Schuster also played well in the victory.

The Old Bridge Blue Rockets, an under-8 girls all-star soccer team, finished in first place at the East Brunswick Soccer Tournament. The Blue Rockets are: Priscilla Amalbert, Stephanie Bulkowski, Julie Connor, Gabrielle D’Acunto, Alexandra Fazio, Amanda Pero, Nicole Sandoli, Jennifer Schwartz, Jennifer Shapiro, Emily Tesoriero, Melanie Weldon, and Jennifer Whitford. The team is coached by Frank Fazio and Ray Amalbert.

The Old Bridge Raptors, an under-8 travel soccer team, beat North Plainfield 5-2 this week. Joey Reyes had two goals and Steven Morris added a goal and an assist, while Doug Ruby and Brian Knoth also scored. Melaine Richard and Clyde Richard also played well in the offensive end. Mike O’Dowd, Zachery Ryan and Russell Ruanto each made some key passes and had some shots on goal. C.J. Tavernise, Tyler Babrowski, Sean Breen and Clyde Richard played their typical solid defense, and goalies Steven Zafrani, Ryan and Breen made some big saves.

The Old Bridge Raptors are coached by Tim Ryan, Bill Tavernise and Don Palisay.

The Sayreville Stingrays, an under-10 girls travel team, took first place at the Manalapan Memorial Week-end Tournament. They scored 14 goals in games against Manalapan, Old Bridge, Twin County and Millstone. The Stingrays are: Katy Bednarz, Lynn Bloodgood, Kaitlyn Bouchard, Jillian Buckley, Amanda Fuller, Kerry Heaney, Sarah Janas, Rebecca Miller, Melissa Mocarski, Stephanie Pires, Melissa Restivo, Jessica Skelton, Amanda Vicari and Ashley Wetzel. Coaches are: Jeff Miller, Ellen Bednarz and Charlie Restivo.

In addition to winning the tournament, the Stingrays also took first place in the American Division of the Monmouth-Ocean Soccer Association this season. They outscored their opponents 30-11.

The Sayreville Stars, an under-14 (in the fall) girls travel soccer team, will be having tryouts on June 19, 21 and 22 at the soccer complex on Bordentown Avenue from 6 to 8 p.m. each day. The team seeks a few dedicated players to complete its roster. Anyone interested in trying out can contact either Coach Ted at 721-0312 or Coach Ralph at 656-9499.

The Monroe Panthers, an under-13 girls travel soccer team, finished the season with a pair of close loses in the Soccerama Tournament. In the first game, the Panthers dropped a 3-1 decision to the Piscataway Mohawks. Jessica Byrne had the lone Panther goal. The Metuchen Galaxy edged the Panthers 3-2 in the second game. Lindsey Pritzlaff and Kari Pole each had a goal, while Pritzlaff and Tina Macarro had assists. There was good field play by Heidi Potochar, Cassandra Carr, Sara Feldhan and Michele Noto.

The East Brunswick Hurricanes, an under-9 girls recreation all-star soccer team, took first place in the Toms River soccer tournament. The Hurricanes finished with three wins and no losses and outscored their opponents 10-1. The Hurricanes are: Mariam Bestawros, Marisa Estremera, Kaitlin Gaston, Jean Gipson, Ashley Grabowski, Stacey Hamaoui, Jamie Hatala, Nicole Knief, Rachel Oshinsky, Jennifer Schellenberg, Carly Stock, Kathleen Szold and Sarah Wexler. The team is coached by David Breen and Jerry Wexler.

Husky Indoor Soccer, in cooperation with Kroger and 5 a Day for Better Health, will host a soccer skills competition at Matawan Regional High School as part of the National Youth Games on June 25. The competition is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 13. The event is free, and participants may register on the day of the competition at noon, on-site.

The top three finishers in the local competition will advance to the Dole sectional competition and will be eligible to qualify for the national finals in Honolulu, Hawaii. All competitors will be eligible to take the "Eat 5 Fruits and Vegetables a Day" challenge and win a trip for four to Hawaii.

South River Parks and Recreation is currently accepting registration for its summer tennis program.

There will be youth clinics for players 17 and under and adult clinics for those 18 and over. Each clinic is eight hours of instruction (twice a week for four weeks) by a USPTA certified instructor. The fee is $50. To register or for more information, call 254-4412.

The Lady Eagles summer 2000 basketball camp will be held June 26-30 at St. Mary Regional High School, South Amboy. The camp, open to girls ages 10-16, will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, and the fee is $100.
