What

is

news?

News

is what interests you and your neighbors. News includes what happens
at municipal government meetings and what happens at school. It also
includes church and community events.

News

Tip:

Look at the paper to see how the information is written. Fashion your notice
after those you see in the paper.
For
example:

Just one week until the Cranbury Education Foundation’s annual Craft Show.
Jane Doe reports that more than 75 exhibitors have been booked, coming
from as far away as Vermont and Delaware. It’s not too late to lend a
hand. Phone Mary Doe at (609) 555-5555 to volunteer. You may also support
the Craft Show by donating baked goods, such as cookies, cakes, pies or
preserves for the Bake Sale table. Sue Doe is organizing the sale and
may be reached at (609) 444-4444.

News

also means
accomplishments

and efforts

…fund-raisers,
food drives, honor roll, scouting awards, birthdays and anniversaries.

For
example:

On March 10, a dance for middle school students will be held at the John
Witherspoon Middle School Gymnasium from 7:30 to 10 p.m. The proceeds
from the dance will benefit the HiTOPS’ Middle School Peer Education Program.
All area middle school students are invited to attend the dance. A professional
DJ will provide live entertainment. Refreshments will be sold in the cafeteria.
Admission to the dance is $5. For more information about the dance, HiTOPS
or to donate door prizes, call (609) 333-3333.

And

don’t forget

to tell us about

your milestones

…births,
engagements, weddings, college graduations, sports team action and business
announcements and promotions.

For
example:

Jane Doe of Hopewell Township, a 1999 graduate of Hopewell Valley Central
High School, is among those named to the Dean’s List at Valparaiso University
for achieving academic excellence during the fall semester.
Or:

Eighteen-year real estate veteran John Doe recently earned membership
into the New Jersey Million Dollar club for outstanding sales achievement
in 2000. A longtime resident of Bordentown, Mr. Doe and his wife, Jane,
have three children. He is a member of several local service organizations
including… Before becoming a Realtor, Mr. Doe taught economics at North
Burlington County Regional High School.

send?

you have an idea for a story; please tell us:

what the event is, when

it will be held, who is involved

event in advance will enable more people to participate.

us information about an event that already took place; please include
information about the event, include the names of the people involved
and where they live. Tell us whom we can call to get more information
