Traffic stop results in wanted man’s arrest

MANALAPAN — Police officers arrested an individual wanted in Somerset County following a motor vehicle stop on Wilson Avenue at 10:28 a.m. June 24.

Police said when the stop was made because the vehicle had a cracked windshield and neither of the two people in it were wearing seatbelts, the individual driving the vehicle gave officers a false name.

Police said that man was later identified as Luquam Holland, 31, of Plainfield. Manalapan police charged Holland with falsely implicating another person, hindering apprehension, possession of stolen credit cards and several motor vehicle violations.

According to police, Holland was wanted on a no-bail warrant issued by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office for possession of cocaine. He was also wanted on a warrant out of Bound Brook.

Bail on the Manalapan charges was set at $10,000.

At the same time, Teresa Cortes, 22, of Plainfield, the passenger, was found to have warrants out of Bound Brook, South Bound Brook and Newark.

She was charged by Manalapan police with being in possession of stolen credit cards and was lodged in jail in default of $25,000 bail for that offense.
