South Brunswick Community Education will offer "Kindergarten Prep" for children entering Kindergarten in September.
The program runs Aug. 14-18 from 9 a.m.-noon at all elementary schools, and is $55. It familiarizes children with the routines of a typical day and involves reading, and other "school readiness" activities. Scholarships are available until July 30.
Academic Enrichment will be at Monmouth Junction School, and the cost is $99 per week.
This is a morning program, 9 a.m.-noon, for children entering grades one and two, and three through five. Children may enroll for one week, or several weeks, and will develop reading, writing and/or math skills.
The programs for children in grades one-two are: July 24-28, reading, writing and drama activities; also the study of butterflies, ladybugs and spiders in the "Bugs and More Bugs" program; July 31-Aug. 4, writing about friendships; also, the exploration of mathematical concepts in the "Ocean Study" program; Aug. 7-11, reading and discussion of the book Amelia Bedelia; and also, learning about leaves, trees and flowers in the program "Nature and the Great Outdoors."
The enrichment program for children in grades three through five is as follows: July 24-28, reading and discussion of the book Encyclopedia Brown, and the creation of a mystery book; also "Math Games" involving computation, logic, application and word programs; July 31-Aug. 4, learning about nature, exploration, and travel on the Magic School Bus; and also, learning math while cooking, through measuring, doubling and dividing recipes and the creation of a recipe book.
The "Lunch Bunch 2000" program runs from June 26-Aug. 11 (after Academic Enrichment), enabling children to stay at the camp until 2:30 p.m. Activities include cooking, computers, arts and crafts, and other activities and tuition is $65 per week.
"Summer Fun" is available for children in Kindergarten through second grades for $89 (one week) or $160 (two weeks). The program will be at Indian Fields School and runs July 24-28; July 31-Aug. 4 and Aug. 7-11, from 9:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Activities include the exploration of math manipulatives, computers, and literature.
