The Manalapan Red Dogs, an U-14 boys’ team that will be playing in the National 2 Division in the Monmouth-Ocean Soccer Association this Fall, need one of two players to fill out their roster. Call Bob Sussman at 446-2905 if interested. Boys should be born between Aug. 1, 1986 and July 31, 1987.

Matthew Spielman and Tim Martin tied for the low round on the third stop of the 2000 Junior Golf Competition Circuit of New Jersey summer tour. Both golfers carded rounds of 38 for nine holes on the Knob Hill Country Club, Manalapan, on July 11. Spielman and Martin were tied for first in the 14-17 age division after their rounds. Spielman got the win in a playoff tiebreaker. Chris Osborne was third, finishing just one stroke behind with a 39.
The 11-13-year-old competition was won in a playoff as well. Robert Gross won in a playoff after he and Jonathan Abramson both shots 47’s. Third place went to Chris Antonen after a 50.
Thomas Ferretti won the 9-10 division following a 45. Second went to Jimmy Burke (49) and third to Zak Hasselbrink (51).
Bobby Krueger won the 8-year-old division firing a 50. Second went to Marc Goldberg (57) and third to Chris Polvere (62).
The next stop on the Junior Golf Competition tour will be at the Peddie Golf Course, Hightstown. Play will begin at 8 a.m. On July 27, Battleground Country Club will host an event starting at 1 p.m.

The Mustang Baseball Camp, held in conjunction with the Marlboro Little League and Cilea Chiropractic, will be held Aug. 7-19 (rain date Aug. 11) from 5:30-8 p.m. at Marlboro High School. The camp is for players ages 8-14. Campers will receive 10 hours of instruction from local high school coaches. Robert Anderson, the head coach at Marlboro is the director and his staff includes Marlboro assistant Jeremy Braverman and former Marlboro star Dr. Joe Cilea, who continued his baseball career at Brookdale Community College and Villanova University. At the Amateur Athletic Union National Karate Championships held in Richmond, Va., several athletes from the J.H. Kim Karate Academy in Freehold distinguished themselves.
Samantha Koellner of Englishtown was a national champion, winning the gold medal for Kumite (sparring) in the 11-year-old beginner girls’ division. She also won the silver medal in Kata and Kobudo (long weapons) in the same division.
Evan Koellner of Englishtown was the national champion in Kobudo in the 8-year-old boys’ beginner division. He was sixth in Kata.
Kayla Duerkes of Farmingdale won the silver medal in Kata in the 11-year-old girls’ novice division. Kevin Duerkes of Farmingdale won the bronze in Kobudo in the 9-year-old boys’ intermediate division and placed fifth in Kata.
Nico Timpani was a bronze medalist in the 7-year-old boys’ beginner division and Michelle Frasetti of Colts Neck won the bronze in the 10-year-old girls’ beginner division.
Karen and David Walzer of the Kim Karate Academy trained the medal winners.
Delta Shuttle paced a mile in 1:52.3 in winning the $100,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Championship at the Meadowlands. The daughter of Cam’s Card Shark won for the fifth time in 10 starts this year and boosted her earnings to $138,653. Ron Pierce drove the filly to her win.
Shadow, the 2-year-old son of Deliberate, set an all-time Sire Stakes record for 2-year-old trotting geldings, 1:57.2, at the Meadowlands. Robert Blanton Jr. drove the trotter to the Sire Stakes record. The old Meadowlands mark was 1:59 by At The Top in 1991 and the previous overall record was 1:57.4 set by Ersatz at Garden State Park in 1991.
UK Elite Soccer will be holding a series of Soccer Camps in the coming weeks in New Jersey. Mosa Select, an under-12 girls team, took first place in the Rhode Island Seaside Classic Tournament with an undefeated record. Tryouts for a 10-year-old traveling baseball team will be held on Sunday at 9 a.m. at the YMCA Day Camp (Route 537, Millstone). The team plays home games in the Manalapan/Freehold/Millstone area. There is no residency requirement.

Marlboro High School will be holding its fall athletic physicals on Aug. 22 in the nurse’s office, from 1-2:30 p.m. for girls’ sports only, and from 3-4 p.m. for boys’ sports only. Make-ups will be held from 4-4:30. No student athletes will be permitted to participate without an approved physical. All school physicals must be signed by the school nurse prior to participation.
