Jack Skirkanich of Rumson finished third at the Independent Insurance Agents Junior Golf Classic championship on July 17 at the Olde York Country Club in Columbus.

Skirkanich, the second time finalist to advance to the national tournament fired a 154, nine shots behind the winner Chris Nallen of Hackettstown.

The five finalists advanced to the IIAJC National Finals to be held Aug. 15-18 at White Columns Golf Club in Alpharetta, Ga.

Interscholastic ice hockey players from Monmouth and Ocean counties will face off for charity at the Ocean Ice Palace on Saturday. The Jim Dowd’s Shoot for the Stars Shore High School All Star Ice Hockey Game pits the top players from Monmouth against their counterparts from Ocean County in the 7 p.m. match. Proceeds from the game, which include the raffle of 15 sticks autographed by NHL players, will go to help 6-year-old Jeremy Zalinski, who is suffering from inoperable brain cancer.

Dowd, a member of the New Jersey Devils 1995 Stanley Cup champion team, founded the annual game three years ago. Each game benefits a different charity.

A former player for the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers, Dowd is now with the NHL expansion team Minnesota Wild.

The Monmouth County contingent will include players from St. John Vianney, Christian Brothers Academy, Red Bank Catholic, Manasquan and Rumson-Fair Haven high schools. Mike Dowd of St. John Vianney and David Smith of Rumson-Fair Haven are the coaches.

Raritan Valley Soccer Officials Association is seeking candidates interested in officiating high school soccer in Middlesex, Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren counties.

The RVSOA are members of the National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association Interscholastic Division and the New Jersey Soccer Officials Association, the leading organization for high school officiating in the state.
