Marlboro’s Becky Pernicone captured the Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association Junior Girls’ Championship held at the White Beeches Country Club in Hawthorne on July 21. Pernicone, who will be a senior at Marlboro High School in the fall, carded an even par-74 in winning the championship.
Howell’s Gregory Wyzykowski, a United State Professional Tennis Association member, has been appointed the coach for the new women’s tennis program at Georgian Court College, Lakewood.
This year will be the first time in the 92-year history of the college that it will be fielding a competitive tennis team. Wyzykowski is currently the head tennis pro at the Rumson Country Club, tennis pro and instructor for the Monmouth County Park System, boys varsity coach at Shore Regional and teaching pro at Brunswick Hills Racquet Club, East Brunswick. Wyzykowski served as the women’s head tennis coach at Brookdale Community College in 1997.

Scott Clifford of Marlboro, competing for the Children’s Specialized Hospital’s Lightning Wheels team, set national records in track at the Junior National Wheelchair Championships held in San Jose, Calif.
The Lightning Wheels’ 16-member team set 32 national records and won 116 medals, including 71 gold. Clifford made a major contribution to the Lightning Wheels, winning six gold medals.
Clifford set national records in track in the 400, 200, 100 and 60 meters.
He also won the Indian Club crown and was a member of the winning boys’ 800-meter relay team.
