Morganville’s Weitz wins final race of FARC Summer Series

The Freehold Area Running Club concluded its Summer Race Series last Wednesday night with its special Handicap 5K at the Battlefield State Park.

In this handicap race, each runner was given a handicap starting time based on his or her fastest time this summer. Anyone running in the race for the first time, started with the fastest runner.

Morganville’s Jeff Weitz was the first to the finish line in the finale, with Judy Waitt of Freehold second. Jeff’s sister Erica Weitz was third and their mother Gail Weitz was fourth. Fifth was Christian Lynch of Princeton, who started last. Lynch turned in the fastest time of the year, 16:25.

Rounding out the Top 10 were: Howard Gallin, Jackson; Brandon Elimanco, Freehold; John Contract, Freehold; Kelly Korz, Freehold; and Chris Reed, Freehold.

Freehold’s Brian Brach finished 11th in the race but clocked the second fastest time of the night, 17:29.

Other top finishers were: Jim Bergum, Howell, 12th; Christine Yovnello, Freehold, 13th; Eric Costello, Manalapan, 14th; Lisa Riccobene, Manalapan; 15th; Tom Brieva, Manalapan, 16th; Jim Jensen, Englishtown, 17th; Ben Ottmer, Lakewood, 18th; John Weitz, Morganville, 19th; and Joe Sladewski, Morganville.
