Resident is around to see the light, and proud of it

If Sy Smolin had asked me my age, I would have told him. Instead, he is guilty of violating my privacy. Age is only a number. I am very proud of my accomplishments. It’s the brain that counts — not the age.

By stating that he is a member of the board of trustees of Covered Bridge, Mr. Smolin has besmirched the integrity of the entire board. How now can anyone believe anything any trustee states as true, when one of them is so misled by false information? Shame on you, Sy Smolin. Send in your resignation.

I never doubted that Stuart Moskovitz attends a temple on the High Holy Days — it’s just that he just doesn’t approve of the way Orthodox Jews worship. That’s why he made that slur and called them hypocrites.

Mr. Smolin’s quote, "she will never see the light in her lifetime," is his way of complimenting me on my presentation to both the transportation department and the township. I am alive, and I see the light.

Mr. Smolin is making this a "party" issue. Let’s see. Mr. Moskovitz appeared at a "bus riders and walkers" meeting in Covered Bridge. We, Lillian Schaffer and I, were invited because Mr. Moskovitz would address the traffic light problem. He did — he told a stunned audience they would not get a light because he, as a Democrat, had voted against it. There was a riot. Good job, Mr. Moskovitz. You betrayed Covered Bridge residents.

The bond ordinance hearing (budget) of March 1999 — nice statement, Mr. Smolin, but not true. Mr. Moskovitz made many petty suggestions, argued vehemently and made very little impression on the audience. Yes, he did vote time and again against the budget as presented, but he also held us, the audience, "hostage" for three hours — not for the reasons Mr. Smolin states.

He demanded a "ransom." He wanted money for three or four insignificant items that in no way benefited the thousands of people who would gain from the traffic lights — he wanted the money from the budget.

Then-mayor Richard Frenkiel and others on the Township Committee refused to give in to Mr. Moskovitz’s demands.

Finally, a very wise bond counsel stated that Mr. Moskovitz could have his money (for these insignificant items) from "monies on hand." Mr. Moskovitz, after receiving his ransom, then voted. That’s how the budget was passed. The people Mr. Smolin says gave him "lip service" are the majority that voted to give us the light (the Republicans), the very same ones Mr. Smolin rails against.

Mr. Smolin, stop whining and telling the world that Covered Bridge residents are losers. As taxpayers, they just won.

Since Mr. Smolin did not attend the regular meetings of the Township Com-mittee, he is not aware that when I accused Mr. Moskovitz of harassing me, he stated publicly that he doesn’t have to harass me anymore — now (as a committeeman) he can harass "the trustees" (Covered Bridge). Sy Smolin was the "goat" — probably the weakest — someone who might aspire to become a committeeman.

For those "in the know," it was my time, my knowledge and my money that paid for the preparation to appear and lobby for the traffic and pedestrian lights. I give all this to you, Sy Smolin, and to every other taxpayer who can now safely cross and drive on Union Hill Road.
