The Teen After School Club (TASC) will be kicking off its second year at the Millstone Township Middle School this September.
According to a press release, TASC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing quality after-school programming to middle school-age children.
In TASC’s first year, Millstone students in grades five through eight were provided with a daily homework tutorial, recreation and planned programming. Students baked apple pie, made fudge and created crafts, including Thanksgiving baskets, valentines, clay creations and origami.
Students also participated in service projects involving UNICEF and the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Academic topics included study skills, a mock election, a study of the presidents, science experiments, computer exploration, calligraphy and cultural experiences.
Visits from invited guests included a fall fashion preview from the Gap at Freehold Raceway Mall, a visitor from the mall’s Zapp Comics to discuss collectibles, a representative from the Monmouth County SPCA, the director of the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, a poet visiting for National Poetry Month, Millstone Mayor Cory Wingerter, the Millstone Township First Aid Squad and a representative of the Millstone Township Alliance.
TASC meets at the middle school on every full day of school until 6 p.m. The program is staffed entirely by certified teachers from the middle school and students can be enrolled to attend either three or five afternoons each week. Some scholarship assistance is available.
