Roosevelt seeks tuition students

ROOSEVELT – With substantial classroom space available, the Roosevelt Public School is looking for tuition students.
The average class size at the school is 13 students, and the state recommends schools go up to 18 per class, Superintendent Dale Weinbach said.
"We just want everyone to benefit from our wonderful programs," Dr. Weinbach said.
She said the district "loves" the 13 pupil average but it wants to make its extra space available.
The school, which is the only one in the borough, has grades K-6 with one full-time teacher per grade level.
Tuition for kindergarten, which is four hours a day, is $2,500.
For grades 1-6, the tuition is $4,000.
The school was awarded "Best Practices" status for 1997-98 by the state Department of Education for its science program.
The statewide award depends on a thorough review, Dr. Weinbach said. "You tell the department your best program and they put it through a very rigorous evaluation."
Dr. Weinbach also is proud of the math and science departments. Teachers have taken training classes in science at Princeton University.
"We also have a state-of-the-art computer lab and last year we started teaching Spanish in every grade in the school," Dr. Weinbach said.
Dr. Weinbach noted the school has an instrumental music program and on-site after-school care.
"We’ve also done many projects involving the Internet including one with Rutgers University athletes," she said.
This project involved Rutgers athletes communicating with students about how the lessons learned in athletics can be used for academic work.
The Roosevelt Public School has 88 students, seven full-time classroom teachers and several part-time teachers for subjects such as Spanish, art and music.
Dr. Weinbach said the school takes on a few tuition students every year.
Any student coming from outside the district must have their own transportation, Dr. Weinbach said.
