Vernon J. Dancer, 77

   PLUMSTED – Vernon J. Dancer, 77, of New Egypt died Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
   Mr. Dancer was born in Red Valley and was a lifetime resident of New Egypt.
   He was self-employed as a horse trainer and driver.
   He was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association, the Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association and the New Jersey Farm Bureau. He recently was nominated to the Harness Racing Hall of Fame.
   He is the son of the late James and Helen Dancer; husband of the late Carolyn Bell Dancer; brother of the late Charles and Harold Dancer; father-in-law of the late Murell Parker. He is survived by two daughters, Joan Crain, and Carolyn Joyce Parker, both of New Egypt; two sons, Vernon E. of New Egypt and Donald of Marlboro; one brother, Stanley of Pompono Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and a special friend Barrie Barr of Cherry Hill.
   Funeral services are Saturday, Sept. 9, 10 a.m. at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main St., New Egypt. The Rev. Horace Frantz and Pastor George Simmons co-officated.
   Internment was in Jacobstown Cemetery.
   Calling hours are Friday, Sept. 8, 2-9 p.m., at the funeral home.
