John A. Ellsworth
Founder of liquor store
PHOENIX – John Albert Ellsworth died Wednesday. He was 83.
Born in Mobile, Ala., he lived in West Windsor from 1920 to 1985, before retiring to the Phoenix area.
He was founder of the Princeton Junction Package Store, also known as Ellsworth’s Wines and Liquors, and was also owner of the Bear Brook Tavern and founder of West Windsor State Bank.
Mr. Ellsworth was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He was president of the Mercer Hunterdon County Package Store Association and vice president of the New Jersey Package Store Association.
Mr. Ellsworth was a member and a vice president of the Mercer County Park Commission from 1967 to 1980, president of the West Windsor Lions Club and an early member of the West Windsor Little League.
Husband of the late Catherine "Kay" Ellsworth, his former wife, he is survived by his wife, Danielle Ellsworth of Sun City, Ariz.; sons and daughters-in-law Shawn W. and Roberta Norris Ellsworth of Princeton and Mark A. and Mary Woodward Ellsworth of Mantoloking; sisters Dorothy Warren of Davie, Fla., Gertrude Brooks of Plainsboro and Mildred Coughlin of Beverton, Ore.; grandchild Alyssa Adams Ellsworth; stepgrandson John L. Griffith III; goddaughter and niece Cheryl A. Ellsworth; and several other nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21 at Trinity Church, 33 Mercer St., Princeton.

Margaret C. Kearney
Resident of Princeton
Margaret C. Kearney of Princeton Township died Monday at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick. She was 96.
Born in Bloomingburg, N.Y. she lived in Sawkill, N.Y. before moving to Princeton in 1985.
Wife of the late Frank Kearney, sister of the late Frank Desimone, she is survived by sister-in-law Anna M. Desimone of Princeton; niece Betty Troichuk of Princeton, with whom she lived; and other nieces and nephews.

Edgar L. Rachlin
Journalist and real estate agent
HOLMDEL – Edgar L. Rachlin died Monday at The Medical Center at Princeton. He was 80.
Born in Maplewood, he was a resident of Holmdel.
Mr. Rachlin was a journalist for PM magazine, a commercial real estate agent and an investor.
A graduate of the University of Chicago, he received a master’s degree at Harvard University. He was a member of the Nassau Club and Harvard Club, and a board member of the Monmouth County Chapter of the ASPCA and the Monmouth ConservationFoundation. He was also a member of the Lichtenstein Colloquium on European and International Affairs of Princeton and the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association.
He was an Army sergeant stationed at Fort Dix during World War II.
Son of the late Abraham H. and Bertha L. Rachlin, brother of the late Susan R. Neubauer, he is survived by nephews Joshua and Alexander Neubauer of Los Angeles and Cornwall, Conn.
The funeral will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Robert Spradley Jr.
Former resident of area
MARGATE, Fla. – Robert Spradley Jr., originally from Hightstown and recently residing in Margate, died Sept. 1 in North Broward Medical Center. He was 23.
He is survived by his parents Evelyn Spradley of Hightstown and Robert Spradley Sr.; stepmother Anna; and stepbrother Timothy of Margate.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Saint David’s Church, Cranbury.

Harriet M. Gordon
Children live in area
MONROE – Harriet M. Gordon died Tuesday at Tisch Hospital in New York. She was 80.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived there most of her life before moving to Concordia in Monroe 15 years ago.
She was a bookkeeper for the Mitsui Corp. for several years before retiring.
She was a member of Hadassah, Deborah, B’nai B’rith, National Council of Jewish Women and Concordia Chorale and Players.
Daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Mantell, wife of the late Robert Gordon, she is survived by daughter and son-in-law Luanne and Michael Lebwohl of West Windsor; sons and daughters-in-law Richard and Cynthia Gordon of Plainsboro and Robert and Rebecca Kohl of Margate, Fla.; grandchildren Jason and Robert Lebwohl, Heather and Rory Gordon, Melissa Wilson and Jillian Kohl; and special friend Carl Neltzer of Monroe.
The funeral was held Thursday.
The period of mourning is observed at the Lebwohl residence.
