EAST WINDSOR – At 5:25 a.m. Monday, police found Charles Castrovinci, 25, of Staten Island, N.Y., in the lobby area of the East Windsor Ramada Inn waving his arms and shouting "Arrest me! Arrest me! Take me away! Arrest me!"
So police did, eventually charging him with three counts of assault against a police officer, disorderly conduct, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Patrolmen James Geary and Scott Brown responded to a complaint at the Ramada Inn and found Mr. Castrovinci pleading to be arrested. However, one officer was pushed away when he tried to search Mr. Castrovinci, and the officers needed pepper spray to subdue and handcuff him, police said.
Intrigued by Mr. Castrovinci’s unusual request, the officers went to conduct a search of his room. There they found the door open, with marijuana, cocaine and drug paraphernalia allegedly in plain view inside.
In addition to Mr. Castrovinci, three others guests who apparently were staying in the room with him were charged with possession. They are Christopher Cutrone, 21, Teresa O’Neill, 25, and Katy Taaffe, 25, all of Staten Island. These three were released on bail.
Mr. Castrovinci was held in jail at the East Windsor police station that day and at 10:30 p.m., police said, he started throwing water and wet paper towels at other prisoners. When Patrolman Scott Bodnar and Sgt. Thomas Slattery went to calm Mr. Castrovinci, he spat on them and continued his unruly behavior. Officers again used pepper spray to subdue him and calm him down.
Mr. Castrovinci was being held at Mercer County Jail.
