The football team at Fairleigh Dickinson University-Madison has a distinct Manalapan flavor, starting on offense where seniors Mark Pollifrone and Mike Quigley return. The quarterback-receiver combination, who first started connecting at Manalapan High School, is critical to the Devils this fall. Quigley led the Devils in receiving last year with 53 catches, good for 838 yards and one touchdown. He was selected to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom League First Team. Pollifrone will be the starting quarterback this fall after sharing it last year with the graduated Phil Revien. Pollifrone passed for 821 yards and three touchdowns.
Last year’s MAC Freedom League Defensive Rookie of Year was Manalapan grad Justin Zaleski. He had 42 tackles, three sacks, two pass break-ups and one interception player strong safety. He has been moved to linebacker for the 2000 season. Another ex-Brave Frank Nolasco will start in the secondary for the Devils.
FDU-Madison was 5-6 in 1999. The Devils’ 5-5 regular season earned them a trip to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southeast Championship game for the first time since 1993 and just the second time in school history. The team also enjoyed a four-game winning streak, the longest since 1993.
