Council looks at
air conditioning

SAYREVILLE — Residents who complain about the noise level in council chambers may soon be able to hear little clearer.

The Borough Council will be looking into getting central air conditioning in that portion of borough hall.

At the council agenda meeting Monday night, council President Mary Novak suggested that the borough allow a feasibility study be conducted on the entire borough hall.

Novak said the borough could potentially gain a substantial amount of money in energy savings through central air conditioning.

With the exception of two rooms on the third floor of borough hall, most rooms in the building are currently cooled by window air-conditioning units.

But in order to replace the window units with central air conditioning, Mayor Kennedy O’Brien said the borough is looking at spending about $500,000 more than what he would like to spend.

"Do we want to spend a half million dollars to air-condition borough hall?" asked O’Brien.

Instead, O’Brien suggested forgoing a feasibility study and getting quotes to air-condition only the council chambers.
