Over 500 incoming freshmen, new students and parents gathered with faculty and staff volunteers at Hopewell Valley Central High to enjoy dinner, music and an introduction to the school.
"It was wonderful to see such an enthusiastic turnout," said Principal John Bach. "The parents could ask questions and learn what to expect over the next four years, and the students could sign up for extra-curricular clubs and activities and feel at home in the school."
After the picnic dinner and music by several student choruses, parents attended an orientation program in the auditorium. Freshmen and new students went to an Activities Fair in the school gym where students from dozens of clubs had set up displays and were on hand to explain club activities.
"This gives freshmen a chance to ask questions about clubs and decide if they might want to get involved. Many of the club leaders were very energetic in making new students feel welcome and recruiting them to join," said one teacher.
Parents toured the school with junior and senior student Peer Leaders, then gathered in the school cafeteria where parent volunteer and community groups provided information on their activities.
"This is the second year we’ve done this and it’s a nice way to start the year for the new students, their parents and the staff – we all enjoy it," said Mr. Bach.
