SOUTH RIVER — There may be some relief in store for residents who visit Daley’s Pond Park.
The Borough Council is considering installing new bathrooms and expanding parking at the Prospect Street park.
According to officials, the park had bathroom facilities at one time, but they have not been in service for several years.
Many local groups use the park for soccer games throughout the year. Many who go to the park have expressed that they would like to have facilities in the park and better parking during games.
Nearby Grekoski and Varga Memorial parks already have permanent bathroom facilities. This past year, portable toilets were placed at Daley’s.
Borough Business Administrator Charles Kolakowski said the borough will likely discuss either putting in a permanent facility or a padded cover for portable toilets.
The borough is also considering possible solutions to the parking problems that exists.
A decision on the proposals could be made at the next council meeting, scheduled for Oct. 4.
Funding for both studies will come from a federal grant for recreational improvements, Kolakowski said.
In 1999, the borough received funding from the Housing and Community Development Program. Part of the $73,000 received, along with more than $300,000 in surplus money from the 1998 municipal budget, went toward improvements in several borough parks last year and this year.
