Pedestrians must take note of time provided to cross Union Hill Road

Pedestrians using the crossing at Union Hill Road and Wild Turkey Way have been misinformed by a trustee of the adult retirement area, Covered Bridge. They have put your life in jeopardy.

The residents of this area never attended any of the Man-alapan Township Committee meetings and had nothing to do with the installation of the fully functioning traffic light and pedestrian light.

They have estimated that you have almost 30 seconds to safely cross, and then inform you that you have 27 seconds. Don’t listen to them. You will be killed while crossing.

For your information, Lillian Schaffer and I have reconfirmed that the information we gave you is correct. You have exactly 20 seconds from the time you press the "walk" button and the flasher appears, to cross to the other side of Union Hill Road. Remember — exactly 20 seconds.

One day after the new traffic signals were in effect, I received a telephone call complaining that the "No Right Turn on Red" sign had to be moved. That was accomplished. A resident from Covered Bridge telephoned the Manalapan Police Department to thank them for the change in placement, a week later.

Reminder: Exactly 20 seconds. Cross safely … watch out for vehicles making left turns.
