South River’s DeMonico first in Bayshore 5K Classic in Holmdel

South River’s Dave DeMonico continued his mastery of Shore area road races when he ran off with the 10th annual Bayshore 5K Classic in Holmdel on Sept. 16.

Marissa DeTata, a sophomore at Brick Township High School, was the women’s champion.

DeMonico, who has Born To Run and St. Paddy’s Day 10-Mile wins on his Shore road racing résumé, ran a 16:21 at the Bayshore race held on Sept. 16.

DeTata runs track for Brick in the spring, but in the fall plays soccer. She showed that she could be a force in high school cross country when she captured the Bayshore 5K women’s crown in 19:27.

Tom Hall of the Lincroft section of Middletown (17:21) was the top male Master and Anne Marie Olenik of Colts Neck (21:45) was first in the Master competition among the women. Hall was second overall in the race to DeMonico.

Patrick Cavanaugh (20:27) and Mary Ann Mallon (26:29) finished first among Bayshore Community Hospital employees.

Also, 40-44, David Wellner, Rumson (18:00) and Cynthia Shaw, Tinton Falls (22:32); 45-49, Etienne Roux, East Brunswick (18:57) and Raimonda Clark, Staten Island, N.Y. (26:41); 50-54, Peter Reinhart, Red Bank (19:12) and Panse Geer, Hazlet (25:27); 55-59, Edward Brakowski, Hazlet (22:45) and Patricia O’Hanlon, Jersey City (23:41); 60-64, Gene Chase, Middletown (20:30) and Dolores Papirman, Staten Island, N.Y. (29:26); 65-69, men, Ralph Garfield, Manalapan, (22:19); 70 and over, men, Ralph Aquino, Middletown (25:43).

Rich Evans of Plainfield won the racewalking division turning in a 28:38. First among the women racewalkers was Donna Baginski of Eatontown (36:44).

On Saturday, Marlboro will be the site for the Autumn Amble, a 5K ramble over the grounds of what was the Marlboro Hospital. Start time is 10 a.m. Call 544-4756 or 530-6740 for more information on the race.
