SOUTH RIVER — The vacant seat on the Borough Council has been filled.

Last Wednesday, the council voted unanimously in favor of appointing Richard Reichenbach to the empty seat.

Reichenbach replaces former Councilman Jim Jones, who announced his resignation late last month after serving more than three-and-a-half years.

Jones cited personal issues for bowing out of his seat.

Jones, whose term would have finished at the end of this year, was not planning on running to retain his seat on the council.

The Democratic Party also nominated Gerry McAtee and JoAnne Dembinski.

McAtee is also a candidate for council in the November election. He is seeking a three-year term if elected.

Reichenbach was nominated for the council earlier this year by the Democratic Party.

He will remain on the council until the end of the term on Dec. 31.

If elected this November, he will remain as councilman for another three years.

Reichenbach, who is also a member of the Planning Board, will continue to serve in that capacity also.
