Chinese auction

   The Ladies Auxiliaries of Hightstown Engine Co. No. 1 and East Windsor Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 will hold a Chinese auction tonight at the Hightstown Engine Co. Ballroom, 140 North Main St., Hightstown. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the auction begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5. No one under 18 will be admitted.

Jazz pianist

   The Jazz Fridays series at The Peddie School will open its 2000-2001 season at 8 tonight with a solo performance by jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut. The performance will be held at the William Mount-Burke Theatre on the campus of the school. Peddie also will host a pre-concert chat with Mr. Chestnut from 7 to 7:30 p.m., which is free and open to the public.

Park revitalization

   The Hightstown Parks and Recreation Commission invites all interested residents to participate in the Rocky Brook Park Revitalization Project from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Rocky Brook Park, Bank Street, Hightstown. The new wildflower gardens will be rototilled and seeded, the new boardwalk will be marked out for future installation and there will be a general park and stream cleanup.
   Bring garden tools, rakes, gloves, boots and a picnic lunch.
Cleanup kick-off

   An East Windsor Township Cleanup Kick-off will be held Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers are needed to collect litter in township parks and streets. The cleanup will help earn grant money for open space preservation. For information or to volunteer, call 443-4000, ext. 240.
Twin Rivers residents meeting

   The Committee for a Better Twin Rivers will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hightstown Library. Twin Rivers residents interested in what is going on in the community are welcome to attend.

Republican picnic

   The East Windsor Republican Club will host a "Picnic in October" from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at 47 Brooklawn Drive, East Windsor. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 7-12, kids under 7, free. For information, call 448-3072.
PAL Scramble

   The East Windsor PAL will hold its second annual PAL Scramble at 6 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion, Route 130, East Windsor.
   Proceeds will go to PAL-sponsored programs, including baseball, softball, soccer (spring, in-house, indoor and travel), roller hockey, Pop Warner football and basketball (in-house and travel). To help continue to provide funds for these programs, and to be able to offer them to all the young people in the community, PAL is asking for donations of appropriate items to be included in the scramble, i.e., gift certificates, gift baskets, etc. If donated, provide the estimated value of the item.
