SOUTH RIVER — A local councilman may announce his resignation tonight.

Salvatore Marsicano, who served on the council for almost a year, may give his formal resignation at the Borough Council meeting, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight in the library at South River High School.

Marsicano worked for more than 20 years at the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Depart-ment before it was disbanded last year.

On Monday, he told the council that he would be moving to Myrtle Beach, S.C., later this month.

He has already purchased a home in the area and his official retirement from the sheriff’s department is scheduled for sometime this month also.

Marsicano serves as the public safety liaison to the council.

The Democratic councilman will be the second councilman in the past month to announce his resignation.

Recently, Jim Jones announced his resignation from the council after serving three years.

He was replaced by Democratic council candidate Richard Reichenbach.

The borough will now have to find a replacement for Marsicano.

The Democratic Party will have 45 days to propose three possible names for a replacement for Marsicano.

The replacement candidate will complete the remaining two years of Marsicano’s term.
