Councilman bids farewell
to South River colleagues
SOUTH RIVER — The Borough Council has lost yet another member.
Salvatore Marsicano made his final goodbyes to the borough last Wednesday after serving only one year on the council.
"I wish I could have stayed for a few more years," he said.
Marsicano recently announced that he sold his home and has purchased another in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
He and his family are planning on moving this week.
According to Marsicano, he decided to move after retiring from the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office, having served there 27 years.
Marsicano, who acted as public safety liaison, said he hopes the borough will continue to work toward hiring more police officers and improving parks in the borough.
"I hope we can keep going in the right direction," he said.
With two years remaining on his term, the Democratic Party must now find a replacement before the upcoming election. It will have 45 days to nominate two candidates to replace Marsicano.
The council will then nominate one of the people on the list, or another Democratic candidate, to fill the vacant seat.
Marsicano is the second councilman to announce a resignation in the past month.
Just two weeks ago, former Councilman Jim Jones announced that he, too, would not be completing his term.
Jones had only two months remaining on his term before he resigned.
He was not nominated by the Democratic Party to run in the upcoming Nov. 7 elections.
