Award winning children’s singer and songwriter Jonathan Sprout will help First Baptist Church Hightstown mark their 255th anniversary with a concert at the church at 7 p.m. on Nov. 4.
A Hightstown native and former church member, Mr. Sprout will present stores and songs to celebrate American heroes such as Martin Luther King Jr., Sacajawea, George Washington, Amelia Earhart and Abraham Lincoln.
"It’s good to get positive heroes for kids in American history, and it teaches them history," commented Pastor Robert Coats. "Our church is celebrating its 255th anniversary and we go back as far as these heroes do!"
Mr. Sprout’s father was a teacher at Peddie School and his mother taught in the East Windsor Schools.
"His parents are still actively involved in the church when they are in town," Pastor Coats noted. "His mom suggested that he bring his music into the schools, and all of a sudden it caught on. And that’s how he got going."
In addition to releasing eight albums, Mr. Sprout has appeared on numerous TV and radio shows across the United States. A suggested donation of $2 for attending the show will be donated to local charities.
