N.J. residents have right to info about sex offenders

On Oct. 29, the television show 60 Minutes had a program about a convicted child molester living in Millstone Township. They showed his face on the program. He has been living in my town for over a year and because of the way Megan’s Law is currently written, the public was not allowed to be informed of where he lives and what he looks like.

Currently Megan’s Law gives more protection to the rights of the convicted molester than the rights of the victims or shall I say, potential victims. Isn’t this a frightening situation?

On Nov. 7 there will appear a public question that needs to be answered. Please do your best to spread the word and make sure everyone you know living in New Jersey answers this question.

New Jersey is one of the few states left that does not allow the public access to pictures, addresses and criminal history of convicted molesters living in your neighborhood.

Since this is an opinion piece, I will add my opinion. Public Question No. 2 would allow Internet access to information pertaining to sexual offenders. A convicted molester gave up his/her rights when they performed the molestation. In life there are consequences; well, the consequence for molesting a child or raping an individual is you should lose your own right to privacy.

People must stop worrying about the rights of someone who has already performed a grievous act. Start worrying about yourself and your family.
