On Oct. 15 the employees, volunteers, seniors, Mayor and Mrs. Matthew Scannapieco, and Township Council members Mary Singer and Dr. Paul Kovalski Jr., as well as other residents of Marlboro, participated in the "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk" at Point Pleasant Beach to raise a substantial amount of money for cancer research.
On behalf of the Office of Public Information and Seniors Programming, we would like to personally thank each and every walker, as well as those who worked behind the scenes to help make this event a success.
Team Marlboro, 40 members strong, was sponsored through the largess of ShopRite, the Greenwood Bus Co., McDonald’s, Bagel World and donations from Marlboro Township professionals, businesses and individual contributors who helped with each dollar to surpass our financial goal.
Team Marlboro raised $8,317 and the entire walk at Point Pleasant raised $270,000 for breast cancer research.
Every three minutes, a woman learns she has breast cancer. That means one woman in eight will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Only through research can medical breakthroughs lead to cures and survival.
For those who wish to send a contribution, please mail your checks to: the American Cancer Society, 1035 Hooper Ave., Toms River 08753. Again, without the teamwork shown by the employees of Marlboro Township, this important endeavor would not have been possible.
