‘Dracula’ preview for senior citizens

Date is Nov. 12

Theater fans over age 55 are invited to a free preview matinee of Hopewell Valley Central High’s fall production of Dracula on Sunday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m.
The famous tale of horror and romance is based on Bram Stoker’s novel, with a script by John Mattera. The action begins in Transylvania and moves to Victorian England as the Count pursues Lucy, the innocent young woman he has chosen to be his love. Lucy and her friend Mina fall under the count’s spell and begin to behave strangely, so the famous Professor Van Helsing is called and the hunt for the Prince of Darkness begins.
This is the second year the school has offered a free preview for seniors. "It was a lot of fun last year," said co-director Jim Roland. "The kids made homemade desserts for intermission and the audience had a great time."
There are 34 students in the two casts, and over a dozen more working on production crews.
"The older people in the community have been terrifically supportive of the schools and this is our way of saying thanks," said co-director Tery Solomon. "We have a very talented and enthusiastic group of kids this year. It should be a wonderful show."
The free senior preview is open only to those 55 and older. Community members of all ages are invited to performances on Friday and Saturday nights, Nov. 17 and 18, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 and will be available at the door.
