SOUTH RIVER — Democrats will continue to dominate the Borough Council come next year.
Voters approved three Democratic candidates, Gerald McAtee, Richard Reichenbach and JoAnne Dembinski, for the council in the Nov. 7 election.
Both McAtee and Reichenbach will now serve three-year terms in January.
Reichenbach, who was just recently elected to the Borough Council to fill the vacated seat of former Councilman Salvatore Marsicano, received a total of 2,389 votes.
A former Planning Board member, Reichenbach said he would like to continue to work closely within the Borough Council on the various programs already established for residents in the upcoming term.
McAtee received a total of 2,245 votes in the election.
This will be McAtee’s first time serving in a public office. He said although everyone on the council is Democratic, he hopes that everyone serving will express individual opinions on items.
McAtee also said he is looking forward to dealing with the various issues throughout the borough in the upcoming year.
Dembinski will also serve as the lone female on the council come January. She will serve a one-year unexpired term.
She received a total of 2,441 votes in the recent election.
Dembinski was not available for comment.
