Rutgers University head baseball coach Fred Hill announced that Jeff Frazier, of Toms River High School South, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Rutgers and play baseball beginning in the fall of 2001. Frazier, arguably the top scholastic outfielder in the state, is the first high school player to commit to Rutgers during the fall signing period this year. Frazier, listed at 6-3 and 185 pounds, has been a member of the Toms River South varsity team since his freshman year. A two-time All-Shore selection and a First Team All-State pick in 2000, Frazier batted .417 as a junior with four home runs, 33 RBI and a school-record seven triples. He also posted a 10-2 mark on the mound with a 1.64 ERA, striking out 79 batters in 72.2 innings of action. In two-plus years of varsity action, Frazier has crafted a 19-2 mark on the mound. He is expected to play the outfield and challenge for a role of the pitching staff at Rutgers.

Frazier selected Rutgers over Oklahoma, Maryland, Notre Dame, Florida Atlantic and Richmond. Part of a baseball family, Jeff is the second Frazier to commit to Rutgers, as his brother, Charles, signed a letter of intent with the Scarlet Knights in 1999. Following his senior season, however, Charles signed a professional contract with the Florida Marlins after his selection in the amateur draft.
