Presidential election about people, process

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:
The issue in Florida is not simply about Gov. Bush, it is about people and process. Very close elections frequently require recounts and even occasionally court examination and judgments.
The national interest requires respect for the individual voter and as accurate a count as humanly possible before mid-December.
A rush to judgment would not serve this interest nor does criticism of hand counting. After all, Gov. Bush signed legislation allowing hand counting in close elections in Texas just a few years ago.
Rather than seeking instant gratification we must patiently wait until the whole process is completed. We should take as our guide the sage insight of that eminent political philosopher, Yogi Berra, that "It ain’t over till it’s over."
And once the process is over, who-ever wins will be the president of all Americans.
