loses in OT
The Hightstown High School football team has suffered several tough losses this season, but nothing quite like this past Saturday’s 34-28 overtime setback at Ewing.
Ewing rallied back from an early deficit by outscoring Hightstown 27-7 in the second half and overtime.
Hightstown had led 21-7 at the half. The strange part of that score was the fact Hightstown didn’t score a single point while on offense. Steven Torres got Hightstown off to a good start with an 83-yard touchdown return. Mike Fuchsloch returned a punt 32 yards for a score and Abdul Massaquoi returned a fumble 41 yards for another score.
After Ewing pulled back to a point with two touchdowns in the third quarter (it missed the extra point), Hightstown regained the lead on a 3-yard run by T.J. Williams. However, Ewing tied the game with 1:08 to play and then won it in OT.
Hightstown is now 1-8 on the season. Hightstown will host Allentown tonight at 7 p.m. in the season finale for both teams.
improves to 16-1
The Peddie field hockey team defeated Blair, 3-1, this past Saturday. That win allows Peddie to finish the season with a 16-1 mark and the championship of the Mid Atlantic Prep League.
Peddie trailed 1-0 at the half, but took control of the game on a pair of goals by Steph Kelly and a score by Kristen Bocina. Casey Burnett picked up the win in goal for Peddie.

HEWYBL/NFL Flag Football will be hosting their annual football banquet on Sunday, Dec. 3, from 2-6 p.m, at Hightstown High School. The festivities include dinner and the ceremonial presentation of trophies to all the players, with special awards for MVPs. The cost for the dinner is $10 for adults, and $5 for children ages 6 to 11. Players and coaches are free. Space is limited, so reservations must be made with HEWYBL Football coaches by Nov. 17.

Boys or girls born on or after Aug. 1, 1989 are needed for a new U-11 East Windsor travel soccer team. Some of the coaching staff from the East Windsor Express will be coaching and training this new team, along with new coaches.

The team plans to be playing competitively in the Spring of 2001 and will play in either MOSA or Central Jersey initially.

East Windsor PAL is holding indoor soccer sign-ups for the upcoming season. Forms may be picked up at the PAL Office at 30 Airports Road, which is open from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

East Windsor PAL is planning to establish an under-8 girls’ travel soccer team. This team will finish off the 2000-2001 season and go from there.
Tryouts for the team will be held at Etra Park from 10 a.m. to noon on Nov. 18, and at the East Windsor PAL fields from 5:30-7 p.m. on Nov. 19 and 6-7:30 p.m. on Nov. 20.
Girls who wish to try out for the team must have a birthdate after July 31, 1992.

Heidi Boris placed fifth in a time of 20:53 at the Mid Atlantic Prep League Championships, helping the Peddie girls’ cross country team to a third-place finish.
Lawrenceville (30 points), won the event, followed by Mercersburg (42), Peddie (58), Hill (102), Blair (135) and Hun.
Rounding out the results for Peddie, Lindsay Walker was eighth (21:22), Theresa Yaecker 11th (22:11), Nitika Dabas 13th (22:43), Claire Fernandez 21st (23:18) and Peanut Smith 24th (24:00).
BOYS
John Scott’s 20th-place finish was the top race for Peddie in the Mid Atlantic Prep League Championship.
Scott ran a time of 17:39. Other runners in the race for Peddie were Sean Constine (18:14), Tom Evans (18:42), Mike Dinerstein (18:45), Nat Small (18:50) and Max Warneke (19:26).
Blair (38 points) won the event, followed by Lawrenceville (47), Mercersburg (64), Hill (84), Hun (138) and Peddie (146).
ups mark to 7-0-2
The East Windsor PAL Lightning, an under-14 boys’ soccer team, defeated the Peninsula Eagles, 2-1, to improve to 7-0-2 on the year.
Mario Pineda and Anthony LoBianco each scored a goal for the Lightning. Kurt Rodgers had another outstanding game in goal, saving a penalty kick with less than five minutes to play in the game.
three goals in win
The Summit Splash issued a wake-up call to the Cranbury Cyclones by scoring early in the contest. Emily Kotowski answered the call by dominating play with three unassisted goals, which helped the Cyclones win their seventh game, 3-1.
Exceptional play was registered by Katie Burke, playing by far the best match of her young career. Also outstanding were Michelle Quicksall and Krytin Pecsi, who took absolute control of the right side. Dominant midfield play by Kotowski, Quicksall and Danica Presepe allowed the Cyclones to dictate the pace of the match. Danielle Cokeley played a marvelous defensive game. Leslie Hankins was the winning keeper.
Only the remarkable goal keeping by the Splash kept them in the game, as the Cyclones took shots relentlessly throughout the game.
The Cyclones conclude their inaugural Fall season on Sunday with a game at 11:00 am behind the Cranbury School. The Cyclones are hoping to finish their first campaign with an 8-1-1 record.
Union Cosmos
The Cranbury Mustangs, an under-10 boys’ travel were in top form against the Union Cosmos. The Mustangs unsettled the Cosmos right at the start as Nick Hughes scored the first goal in the first moments of play. George Delgado followed up minutes later, sinking the second goal with a soaring lob. Leonel Sandovel dribbled in the third Cranbury goal. In an unusual turn of events, Jose Delgado accidentally slammed the ball into the referee’s face, knocking off his hat and glasses. While the Cosmos stood watching the ref pick up his glasses, Hughes took the ball and ran toward the Cosmos goal unnoticed and unchallenged, easily making the fourth goal.
The Cosmos revived in the second half. But great headers by Kieran O’Connor, cunning steals by Aidan Milner, and terrific blocks and passing by Mark Setaro kept the ball out of Mustang territory. Fancy footwork by Chris Mclaughlin, feints and evasions by Joey Soden, and aggressive advances by Tommy Sorrentino and Will Rogers advanced the ball toward the Cosmos goal. Cristain Padilla took the initiative and scored the fifth Cranbury goal. In the final play of the game, Hugo Alvarez lobbed the ball toward the goal, which was deflected by the Cosmos goalie. But Chris Dunnett deftly kneed in the rebound, making the sixth goal for the Mustangs.
Coach Marcos Padilla’s Mustangs are now 7-2 for the season.
in Cadet win
Evan Rowland scored all three goals for the Inferno in a 3-0 win over the Phoenix in East Windsor PAL Cadet Boys Division action. Justin Bianchini, Trevor Kennedy and Aashay Kelkar also played well for the Inferno. Anthony Hopkins, Henry Suleski and Sean Kelty were standouts for the Phoenix. The Inferno recorded a 2-0 win over the Inferno. Connor Darrell and Evan Rowland scored the goals. David Keyser had a tremendous game in goal. Eric Curry and Aashay Kelkar also had great games. For the Wildcats, Steven Jacobi, Joey Bastian, Scott Schwarz and Connor Signorlin all had excellent games.
The Strikers defeated the Rush, 4-0, as Gregg Ratner scored two goals in the second quarter and Colin Graydon and James Chiorello added one each in the fourth quarter. Conor Finn assisted on one of Ratner’s goals. For the Rush, Tyler Devlin and Ryan Hauber had outstanding games on offense and defense. Gavin Edgerton and Eric Trast did a good job in goal.
James Chiorello and Ethan Cullen scored a goal each, lifting the Strikers to a 2-1 win over the Inferno. Eba Rowland scored for the Inferno. Ryan Miller, Matthew Nash and Andrew Kettles had outstanding games for the Strikers. Connor Darell and Alexander Petak had outstanding games for the Inferno. David Greiff played well in goal.
Ethan Freedman, Tommy Halsey and Davis Soldo (assisted by Tyler Schickner) scored a goal each for the Wizards in a 3-0 win over the Cobras. Tommy Halsey, Anthony Sosa, Kiernan Mullarney and Peter Palmisano played well for the Cobras.
ARSENAL
Ivan Cavieses and Eduardo Carranza scored two goals each for the Arsenal in a 7-1 win over the Jackson Renegades. Raphael Hormazabal, Dennis Egan and Chris Sparacino also scored. Cody Aramburu picked up the win in goal. Sparacino, Erick Arias, Jeff Indellicati and Anthony Nagle were defensive standouts.
JR. GIRLS
Washington Bank defeated the Jr. Friday Club, 4-0. Felicity Moll, Emily Schemelia, Rachel Swallwood (two goals) did the scoring. Christine Schulte, Eva Gerrits and Meagan Anderson also had good games for Washington Bank. For Jr. Friday, Alex Knauer, Jessica Tassone and Dana Trichler played well.
INSTRUCTIONAL
The Green Machine recently completed a superb season. Members of the team are Michelle Belansky, Caitlin Douglass, Lauren Cuilla, Carly DeCristofaro, Alexa Farhan, Emily LeBlanc, Kristen Manochio, Caoimhe Roche, Samantha Swallwood and Lydia Walsh.
The Tornadoes recently finished a very successful season. The team had a great time while learning the game of soccer and sportsmanship. Members of the Tornadoes are Zachary Blanco, Justin Daisy, Benjamin Debebe, Austin Freedman, Eric Hubbard, Peter Kent, Nicholas Kulick, Ryan Lamphear, Evan Pagani, Amar Parikh and Billy Rafalko.
