Community alliance coordinator calls first walkathon a success

The Manalapan-Englishtown Community Alliance hosted the first annual "Substance Abuse Prevention — Something to Walk About" walkathon on Oct. 14. The walk was held to raise awareness of the Community Alliance and issues associated with alcohol and substance abuse.

The Community Alliance serves residents of Manalapan and Englishtown by providing educational programs for all school-age children in the towns, and is aimed at the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse.

The walkathon was a success, as 131 residents of Manalapan and Englishtown took time out of their busy schedules to complete the walk. The morning’s activities included refreshments, entertainment, a clown, a health fair, fire safety, and giveaways for the participants.

Volunteers from Freehold Regional ADAPT (Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Prevention Team) and MS Manalapan AZA, as well as the lacrosse team from Monmouth University, West Long Branch, helped out at the event.

I would also like to thank Manalapan Mayor Stuart Moskovitz and the Township Committee, and Englishtown Mayor Tom Reynolds and the Borough Council for their continued support.
