Public health nurse extends thanks for assistance at S.B. clinics

As the public health nurse for South Brunswick Township Health Depart-ment, I coordinate the annual Adult Health Day and Flu and Pneumonia Clinics for residents of South Brunswick. A variety of health screenings and prevention services were offered on Adult Health Day this year on Oct. 21. Forty-three residents participated.

These screenings included: vision provided by South Brunswick Lions Club; hearing provided by JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute; cholesterol provided by Accumed Diagnostic Lab; depression provided by Princeton House at The Medical Center at Princeton; prostate cancer provided by Pammi Bais, M.D.; osteoporosis provided by Princeton Rheumatology Association; blood pressure and "File of Life" provided by South Brunswick Health Department; and "Brown Bag" program provided by Rakesh Trivedi, registered pharmacist.

In addition, Speeney Family Chiropractic Medicine and the South Brunswick Township Health Department provided health and safety information.

We administered 340 influenza vaccines and 30 pneumonia vaccines at our Senior Flu Clinic on Nov. 8, and we administered 246 influenza vaccines and 20 pneumonia vaccines at our Adult Flu Clinic on Nov. 9.

These clinics could not have been as successful as they were without the support and help of some very dedicated people: The pre-clinic details and registration were done by the health department staff, Debbie Nasdeo and Melanie Flagg. Michelle Malavat, Stephen Papenberg and Doug Sheehan (of South Brunswick Health Department) also assisted at these events. Andrea Johnson, Debbie Manella, June Cooper and Dr. Pammi Bais gave the immunizations.

I also want to thank residents who volunteered their time to make the clinic a success. I certainly could not have done it without their help. They are: Joe and Muriel Calvanelli, Dr. Edward Niemczyk, Mike Palumbo, Clay Hulbert, Ed Rosen, Charles Weber, Jan Gottlieb, Lewis Schwartz, Emma DeVilla, Tanya Toth, Marcia Alig, Bill George, David Katz, Carl Heffington, Ed Robinson and Fred Schott.

It is always a pleasure to work with such dedicated people.
