As the holiday season approaches, it is important that we reflect upon all the good fortune that has been bestowed upon us throughout the year. At this time we must also remember those individuals less fortunate than we, simply by giving back to our community.
One significant way to give back to your community is by donating to local food drives. These drives are very popular at this time of year and can be located in food stores, municipal centers or public schools. Our office has a permanent drop-off box where anyone is welcome to donate food for Middlesex County Food Organization and Outreach Distribution Services. The nonperishable items will then be used to expand the organization’s emergency food network, providing food to those in need.
In the spirit of giving, residents may also donate winter clothing such as old coats, sweaters, gloves and scarves, to local Salvation Army centers. In keeping with this idea of warmth, soup kitchens and women’s support centers are welcoming volunteers to assist them with the greater masses of individuals entering these facilities for the winter season.
Whether it is a can of soup or an hour of your time, giving back to your community will fill you with warm feelings of gratification during this holiday season, and you will spread joy by helping others. Please feel free to stop by our office during business hours at 1967 Route 27, Suite 20, Edison, if you would like to donate canned foods or nonperishable products. For information on all other food drive locations, contact our office at (732) 287-5609.
