Resident urges support for Dr. Robert Rimmer for superintendent
It has been over six months since Alan Elko announced his resignation as North Brunswick superintendent of schools. Shortly thereafter, Board of Education members announced that a successor would be named by Oct. 30. They also promised there would be significant opportunity for public input in advance of that date.
The reality is that Oct. 30 has come and gone; no public input has been sought on any candidate; no candidate has been chosen; and board members refuse to share with the public where they are in the process or when it will end.
This state of affairs is particularly mystifying given we have an excellent candidate within the district. Dr. Robert Rimmer, North Brunswick Township High School principal, has both the academic background and professional experience to lead this district well into the future.
Since arriving at the high school six years ago, he has led an amazing turnaround that culminated in our Blue Ribbon award. Dr. Rimmer has a very broad and deep base of support among staff, students, alumni and community members.
The board has admitted that he is the only candidate still remaining from their months-long search, yet five members continue to seek to delay action. This is an injustice to the community.
The time has come for us to make our views known in spite of the board’s reluctance to listen. I ask that you join me in expressing support for Dr. Rimmer by getting involved. I encourage you to come to the next board meeting on Dec. 12, or to call board members to let your opinions be heard.
