Township set to change schedule on Jan. 3

EAST WINDSOR – Half of East Windsor residents will have new pickup days for recyclables after Township Council members endorsed a new recycling schedule Tuesday.
Growth in the township has made it more difficult for workers to complete the job in one day, so the township is moving to alternate pickup schedules.
According to Mayor Janice Mironov, since all recyclables for the whole township are collected every other Wednesday, many don’t see theirs picked up until early evening. She expects that service will be better because the contractor is not rushing to get everything done on the same day.
"We think it benefits everyone: the contractor, the township, and the residents, by essentially dividing the schedule into two parts. And everybody will still get service every other week," the mayor noted. "There will be no change in the level of service and there are no additional costs to the township or to the residents by making this change."
The new plan would follow the existing division of the township into Area 1 and Area 2 for the purposes of solid waste collection. Area 1 residents, who receive normal solid waste garbage collection on Mondays and Thursdays, will switch to the alternate Wednesday for recyclable collection.
Those in Area 2, who have regular trash collection on Tuesdays and Fridays, will continue on exactly as before.
The change will occur after every residence has recyclable collection on Wednesday, Jan. 3. On Jan. 10, Area 1 residents will again have recyclables collected.
As before, residents should leave their recycables out by 7 a.m. on the Wednesday they are to be collected. The township will publicize the new schedule and send notices to area one residents – the ones whose schedule will change. That way, residents can know for sure if they are part of the new schedule – if they get a direct notice, Mayor Mironov noted Tuesday.
