SOUTH RIVER — Parking and driving near the South River educational campus just got a little easier.

The Borough Council has approved a measure to suspend time-limited parking on David Street.

The measure was first implemented prior to the recent demolition of the Campbell School that stood on David Street.

At that time, residents could only park their cars on the street for half-hour increments between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

But with the demolition of the building earlier this year, the council decided to suspend the parking limitations.

Residents who live in the area of the current educational campus, Montgomery Street, have complained for years about the lack of parking available in the area during school hours.

With the suspension, parking in the area should be eased some.

Last week, Mayor Robert Szegeti also announced the approval of a $250,000 grant from the state Transportation Trust Fund Municipal Aid Program to aid in refurbishing Johnson Place.

The work will replace roadways, curbs and sidewalks on the street from Old Bridge Turnpike to Bryan Street.

Also, Szegeti said, curbs and sidewalks at the roadway’s intersections will be removed and handicap ramps will be installed where required.

In addition, drainage, water valve boxes and manholes will be repaired and improved.

The borough originally applied for the grant in June.
