Several local swimmers on the Red Bank YMCA swim team performed well in the Ninth Annual Fall Festival Swimming Invitational held Nov. 11 and 12 at the DeNunzio Pool at Princeton University.
The annual Fall Festival meet is attended by almost 50 teams representing New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Approximately 1,500 swimmers (ages 9 through 18) compete in age group competition (9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-and-over) during the two-day meet, with the top eight swimmers in each event named finalists.
Swimmers compete in gold and silver divisions based on time standards they have achieved. The meet is sanctioned by United States Swimming (USS). A total of 105 Red Bank YMCA swimmers met the qualifying times and attended the meet.
Top swimmers in the Gold Division were: Mary McCue, 16, first in 50-yard freestyle, second in 100-yard backstroke, fourth in 100-yard butterfly and freestyle, and fifth in 200 individual medley (IM); Katie Tice, 12, second in 50-yard butterfly, second 200-yard butterfly, and seventh 200-yard IM; Brendan Jones, 12, third 100-yard breaststroke, fourth 50-yard breaststroke, fifth 200- and 500-yard freestyle, and seventh 200 IM; Vincent Tupper, 14, third 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, third 400 IM, fifth 500-yard freestyle and 200 IM, and seventh 200 freestyle; Nicole Castronuova, 12, fourth 50 backstroke, sixth 100 backstroke and seventh 50 freestyle; Roxanne Dehnad, 12, fourth 50-yard breaststroke; Dana Sacerdote, 12, fifth 50-yard freestyle; Kyle Williams, 16, fifth 50-yard freestyle; Greg Elzer, 18, sixth 50-yard freestyle; Daniel O’Connor, 14, seventh 100-yard backstroke, eighth 200-yard backstroke; Chris Cefalo, 13, eighth 50-yard freestyle; Chris Farrell, 16, eighth 500-yard freestyle; Ashley Bissett, 16, eighth 500-yard freestyle; and Alex Palmer, 15, eighth 20-yard breaststroke.
