Two Marlboro High School soccer players, Jodie Petenko and Jennifer Becker, have been selected to the region U.S. Navy Scholastic All-America Girls’ Soccer Team. Petenko and Becker are both seniors.
The student-athletes who made the region All-America Team were chosen by a panel of high school coaches and are now eligible to be chosen as part of the National All-America Team. The student-athletes had to meet a minimum requirement of a 3.8 grade-point average as well as demonstrate exemplary qualities both on and off the playing field.
Staci Minuskin, a freshman guard, has helped the Rowan University women’s basketball team get off to a 3-1 start. In the Profs’ 63-53 win over Richard Stockton, Minuskin fueled a 14-0 run that took Rowan from six down to eight up by sinking a pair of three-pointers. Minuskin had a team-high seven assists in Rowan’s 92-74 win over Kean. Minuskin is a graduate of Howell High School, where she earned All-Freehold District honors.
Senior guard Laura Buckley is averaging 12 points and five rebounds a game for The College of New Jersey women’s basketball team. The Marlboro High School graduate ranks second on the team in both categories. She is the co-leader in steals at 2.0 a game. TCNJ is off to a 1-1 start. The Lions dropped their opener 57-47 to the University of Scranton and then bounced Western Connecticut State University, 51-41, to even their record at 1-1. Buckley scored 12 points in both games. Buckley starred in basketball and soccer at Marlboro.
Manalapan’s Mike DiBella was the leading tackler on the Monmouth University football team this fall. The sophomore middle linebacker had 95 stops, including 59 solo tackles. Those totals were eighth best in the Northeast Conference. The Hawks were first in the nation in overall defense among Division I-AA teams. DiBella is a graduate of Manalapan High School, where he helped lead the Braves to a Shore Conference A North Division championship while earning All-Shore and All-Freehold District honors.
