Time is provided for pedestrians to cross Union Hill Road

The purpose of this letter is to put an end to the misinformation regarding the Union Hill Road crossing light near Wild Turkey Way. Many pedestrians don’t understand the meaning of the "walk" and the flashing "don’t walk" indications. According to the state of New Jersey, when the "walk" indication is illuminated, the pedestrian should start walking. When the flashing "don’t walk" is illuminated, it means that if you haven’t started to cross, don’t start. If you have started to cross, continue; adequate time is provided to complete the crossing.

Timing provides eight seconds of "walk" followed by 12 seconds of flashing "don’t walk," for a total time of 20 seconds to complete crossing. And, don’t forget to push the button to begin the process.
