East Brunswick needs restrictions on planting campaign signs

I would like to congratulate the East Brunswick governing boards and the mayor for their position and enactment of the billboard legislation. The township Zoning Board has just rejected a proposal for a sign that it is said would be an unwanted intrusion on township residents and would be visible to people traveling on Ryders Lane.

I concur, but now I would like the township to adopt another ordinance restricting the placement of smaller signs, specifically campaign posters along our many roads including Ryders Lane. In November, Ryders Lane and Cranbury Road had so many signs placed on the roadway that one could hardly see across the road.

The first signs were placed by Mayor Bill Neary’s people. There were approximately 90 signs on Cranbury Road between Ryders Lane and Summerhill Road. This was subsequently followed by many other signs by others running for office.

These signs also are to be considered an unwanted intrusion.
