On Sunday evening, Dec. 3, the firefighters of the Matawan Fire Department rescued my husband and me from a potential tragedy we didn’t even know was developing.
While out on another call that led them past our home, a volunteer named Tim Clifton noticed 15-foot flames shooting from our chimney. Doing whatever was necessary to help both our family and the other, a select group of skilled, kind and very thorough firefighters got us safely out of the house and put out the fire, staying for as long as it took to be sure we were completely safe.
My husband and I will remain forever grateful to these great people who volunteer their time and effort in service of their community. We want to give our public thanks to Les Gilman, Tim Berliner, Tim Clifton and the many others whose names we don’t know, but whose help we will always cherish.
